Quick Guide to Lake Como

Where to stay, what to do and where to dine during your visit to Lake Como.

There are so many beautiful places in Italy that is hard to say which one is the most beautiful but Lake Como is a top contender. Long before the arrival of George Clooney, or as the locals refer to him “The Clooney,” Lake Como was a destination for the aristocrats of Italy. The province was visited by noble families, world leaders and high society. Nowadays, it is a popular destination for all tourists alike as there are accommodations, restaurants and activities to suite every budget.

I became obsessed with Lake Como from the moment I arrived and have since returned many times. I’ve even had the opportunity to wakeboard on Lake Como! Be sure to add Lake Como to your list of places to visit while exploring Italy.

Stay

Grand Hotel Tremezzo // This where I stayed and I absolutely loved it. Not to mention, the pool is floating on the lake which is pretty amazing. Easy access to Bellagio and other popular points of interest.

Villa D’Este // The most iconic hotel in Lake Como. If you cannot afford to stay here, then do stop in for a visit.

Eat

Cantina Follie // Great for enjoying wine and a cheese plate.

La Terrazza //  Located at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Dine on the terrace while enjoying beautiful lake views.

Do

Villa del Balbianello // Probably the most iconic waterfront villa in Lake Como. The villa has been featured in many films such as Casino Royale and Star Wars.

Villa Carlotta // Walking distance from Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The villa is stunning and dates back to the end of the 17th century.

Bellagio Water Limousines // Take a private boat tour around Como. This was one of the highlights of my trip and is the best way to experience Como…from the water!

Get There

I drove to Lake Como from Milan and thought it was well worth having a car to drive around and see more sites around the lake. There is also a train that runs regularly between Milan and Como.
