Napa Valley Wine Train

The Napa Valley Wine Train is a fully-operational antique train serving gourmet food and wine from local vineyards while cruising through the wine country.

Today we are taking a journey through the wine country aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train. Even though I had heard of the wine train many times, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. During my recent visit to Napa, I was fortunate enough to step aboard the locomotive and essentially – a step back in time.

The Napa Valley Wine Train is a fully-operational antique train powered by two modified 1950s-era engines running on an eco-friendly combination of gas and diesel fuel. You feel as if you are in a bit of a moving time capsule with only the views outside to remind you that you are in fact in the 21st century.

While there are many different tours to choose from, first-time riders are encouraged to take the Ambassador Winery Tour which includes stops at Charles Krug and Raymond Vineyards.

The Ambassador tour also includes lunch which is not just an ordinary lunch. The train has a gourmet restaurant on board. Bonus…they have an option for vegetarians! Various wines are served with each course and they really go out of their way to cater to people with dietary restrictions which is always appreciated.

The entire train ride lasts an hour and a half before you are transferred to luxury motorcoach on which you travel to each of the formerly mentioned wineries.

The wine train is a great way to see the entire wine country from a different perspective as opposed to whizzing by in a car. And you get to drink wine while cruising along. Just be prepared for a lot of wine, and I mean a lot because it doesn’t end once you get off the train. The train is only the beginning!
