Wine Tasting at Malibu Wines

You don't have to venture too far from Los Angeles to go wine tasting. Malibu Wines is the ultimate weekend wine tasting experience.

When people think of Malibu what typically comes to mind is rugged coastline and sandy beaches. But did you know that there is a huge wine region in Malibu? Cruising down Kanan Road you will see vineyards covering the rolling hills. One of my favorite places to enjoy a glass of wine is Malibu Family Wines.

The completely outdoor tasting room is rather empty during the week, but on weekends it a giant outdoor wine party. Popular among both locals and visitors, Malibu Wines is the perfect place to enjoy some sunshine and wine in the company of friends and family.

Malibu Wines is an interesting concept – they don’t serve food. Instead, visitors can bring their own food at set up a picnic at the table or on the grass if all the tables are full – and that certainly does happen on weekends. The place gets packed! Malibu Family Wines features both Semler and Saddlerock labels.

The property is fun to wander around. There is an old wagon repurposed to be a fish tank and appropriately named “tank” which is what might be your state once you’ve drank all your wine! Animal Planet covered the unique aquarium on their show and you can watch the segment here.

Malibu Wines is the perfect place to spend the afternoon or early evening – just be sure to leave the kids at home because this is for adults only! You can also go on a wine safari on the Semler property just down the road from the tasting room that has options for families.
