How to Fly to Europe Cheap

It is possible to fly to Europe roundtrip from Los Angeles for relatively cheap. Here's how.

One of my bucket list items was to book a one-way ticket to a destination I’ve never been. I wanted to find the cheapest flight, anytime in the next few months, from LAX to anywhere in the world. This is where one of my handy travel tools, Skyscanner, came into play.

What is Skyscanner?

Skyscanner allows you to search and compare millions of flights. Sounds familiar? Well unlike other flight search engines, Skyscanner allows you to search airfares from one airport to every airport in the world over an entire week, month or even the whole year. Simply enter your departure airport, destination (or leave open-ended) and travel dates.

My Search Parameters: Where? LAX to Everywhere. When? Whole Year.

The Results?

The results come in… Canada? Too close. Mexico? Been there. Puerto Rico? I’ll wait until December. Then I see Denmark.  Seriously, Europe for $350? No way!  I click on Denmark and choose Copenhagen. Skyscanner shows every possible flight and at what price.  There it is.  Nonstop to Europe for only $350. How could it possibly be this cheap to fly all the way to Europe from Los Angeles?

By flying on Norwegian Air, which recently started offering long haul, nonstop service from several major cities in the United States to Europe.  You can fly from New York all the way to Norway for $211 – now that’s a deal. Nonstop service is also offered to destinations like Bergen, Stockholm, London and even Moscow on Norwegian’s long haul service from the United States.

I’ve always wanted to visit Denmark and with its close proximity to other popular destinations like Amsterdam, it was the perfect choice. So in September, I will fly nonstop to Europe for only $350! I have absolutely no plans for when I get to Copenhagen – where I will stay, what to see or where I will go after – but this spontaneous, one-way ticket purchase let me knock off #5 on my bucket list.  Without a planned return date, I’m excited to bounce around Europe (only for 90 days of course given the visa policy of the Schengen countries). I have no doubt that there will be some great adventures ahead – all of which will be document on The Wellist.

  • $350? That’s so insanely cheap! If I could fly from Toronto to Europe for even twice that price anymore I’d be soooo pumped. Maybe I should give Skyscanner a deeper look 🙂

    • Right?!? I know! I almost couldn’t believe it myself. Skyscanner is a great tool and a travel essential for me! Speaking of Toronto… I need to come explore it! My dad was born there and I’ve never even been. It’s on my list 🙂
